The outspoken French Canadian director recently courted criticism from Marvel fans and even other famous movie directors when he criticized the MCU movies for being, in his words, "nothing more than a cut and paste of others." Villeneuve has also publicly complained about the Dune movie's simultaneous release on HBO Max, saying "Frankly, to watch Dune on a television, the best way I can compare it is to drive a speedboat in your bathtub. I think it's very beautiful and very poetic." Villeneuve previously worked on acclaimed movies such as 2013's P risoners, the original Sicario and the critically lauded Blade Runner 2049.
